There is a conversation that happens in the quiet moments. On the commute home. In the bathroom at work before a meeting you do not want to attend. Late at night when the week ahead already feels heavy before it has even started.
The conversation sounds something like this: there has to be something better than this.
If you have been having that conversation with yourself, this post is for you.
My path to building a remote business did not come from ambition alone. It came from necessity. After a car accident in 2018 left me bed-bound for three years and living with chronic pain, a traditional office job was simply no longer an option for my body or my nervous system. The life I had been building, one that looked successful from the outside but was quietly costing me everything, had to change completely.
What I found on the other side of that change was not chaos. It was clarity. A business built around my strengths, my schedule, my health, and my values. Clients who respected my time. Income that reflected my experience. And a version of my days that finally felt like mine.
That is what I want for you too.
The fear of leaving a stable job is one of the most common things women share with me when they first reach out. And it is completely understandable. 82% of professionals report better mental health when working remotely, with women showing even higher rates of improvement at 84% compared to 77% for men. The well-being case for remote work is undeniable. But knowing that does not make the leap feel any less frightening when you are standing at the edge of it. Chanty
So let us talk about what the fear is actually made of.
For most women, it comes down to three things. The first is income. The second is identity. The third is the quiet guilt of wanting something different from what you have worked so hard to build.
On income: the fear of unpredictable earnings is real, and it deserves a practical answer rather than a motivational one. Freelance income can be irregular, but with the right approach to planning and forecasting, you can manage cash flow, cover your expenses, and build steadily toward bigger goals, even in the early months. The key is not to leap without preparation. It is to build the bridge before you cross it. Start part time if you need to. Take on your first remote client while still employed. Give yourself a runway. These are not signs of hesitation. They are signs of wisdom. Millo
On identity: many women have spent so many years being defined by their job title that the idea of stepping away from it feels like losing a part of themselves. But here is what actually happens when you build your own remote business. You do not lose your identity. You finally find out who you are when no one else is writing the brief.
On guilt: wanting more is not selfish. Six in ten senior women report frequent burnout, and women who work within corporate structures are far less likely to be promoted or sponsored than their male counterparts, while facing all the same demands. The system was not built around you. Choosing to build something that was is not abandonment. It is self-leadership. Lean In
Choosing to build something sustainable, something that holds over time physically, financially, and personally, is one of the most courageous things a woman can do for herself and for the people she loves.
The Remote Roadmap is the coaching program I created for women who are ready to make that choice with structure and support behind them. Together we work through identifying your most valuable skills, positioning you in the remote market in a way that feels authentic to who you are, building a client pipeline that gives you stable and predictable income, and creating a working life that your body and your nervous system can actually sustain for the long term.
This is not about moving fast or taking reckless leaps. It is about building a bridge from where you are now to where you know you are meant to be, carefully, intentionally, and with someone walking alongside you who has already made that journey herself.
You have spent long enough pouring yourself into structures that were not built for you. The Remote Roadmap is the one that was.
When you are ready, the door is open.
