THE REMOTE ROADMAP

A LITTLE MORE ABOUT ME AND HOW I FOUNDED SUALIA

Hi, I'm Idalien Everts, and like so many of you, my decision to go remote came from a series of events in my life.

Not sure where you are in this beautiful world, but I grew up in the Netherlands, in a small town in the North.

While my childhood looked ok from the outside, there was a lot going on behind the scenes. It was everything from perfect.

My abusive enviroment shaped big parts of me, and my younger self always wondered what true freedom would look like.

You've come to the RIGHT PLACE & I am SO GLAD that you are here!

how it all started

And to my knowledge, I did.

I started travelling the world nonstop, worked in different countries and continents, and lived every day as if it were my last.

I tried multiple different roles, from recruitment to hospitality, customer service, HR, and Sales. Anything that I could get my hands on.

“I will always live my life to the fullest”

So, when I finally broke free, I made myself a promise:

On paper, I was doing great.

But underneath, I was struggling a lot. My childhood was catching up on me, and I lost myself in alcohol and drugs for two decades.

I had to go back to the Netherlands, where I once swore I would never return, and deal with what had happened to me. It took three years of surgery and recovery. But I was able to walk again.

And in those three years of silence, lying in bed, and nothing but staring at the ceiling, I made myself another promise;

A car accident left me paralysed and bed-bound for three years.

Until I got a wake-up call in 2018

So, I decided to build my remote business.

“Once I can walk again, I will stop being a victim of what happened to me, and I will make something of my life”

The chronic pain I was left with after the surgery made it impossible to keep a traditional 9-to-5.

2023

After flying back to The Netherlands, I started to make a plan.

I listed all my skills I gathered for 20 years in the office. From recruitment, to Customer Service, Sales, HR, and hospitality. It was time to find my first online clients.

I knew I had it in me to go remote, and I decided to set up my business

2022

I flew myself to Cyprus where I started to think about going remote.

I wasn't sure yet which path to follow, but I learned from entrepeneurs around me and made valuable connections in co-livings for one year.

I took my first flight again after my car accident

A long period of recovery started. But after 1,5 year I could walk again and started to regain my strength.

How The story continued

Cape Town

When I left my home country at the age of 23 I moved to South Africa. Cape Town became my second home and after eight years, I finally got my permanent Residency I still spend around six months a year here. To me this is home.

Australia

While Cape Town was my home base, I left for two years to Australia, to train horses when I was still physically able to. It was a great time of living on farms, working in the outback and traveling around.

Switzerland

For the last two years I have been going back to an amazing Co-living in Liddes. This place became a very important startpoint in my entrepeneurship and remote business.

Cyprus

For one year I lived here during my first years after my surgery, and here was the first time I truly strated to think about going remote. Great island, lovely people, and amazing nature!

South America

In my younger years, I went to Brazil and Venezuela to kite-surf and travel. It's such a huge continent and what stood out for me where the amazing people and colourful culture!

Tenerife

I have always been a swimmer and for one year I llived in Tenerife to build out my remote business and swim in ocean pools everyday. It became a year of inner healing, where I could finally return to my body.

Netherlands

There's times I fly back to my home country to see family, clients, friends and just relax for a bit. Amsterdam and Zwolle are still the two places I reguarly visit.

Miami - Carabien

There was a time I worked on cruise ships and embarked from Miami , to see many amazing places!
